MultiCare Health System is a locally governed, nonprofit health system serving the Pacific Northwest with more than 300 primary, urgent, pediatric and specialty care locations across Washington, Idaho and Oregon, alongside hospital services throughout the region. Established in 1882 with the founding of Tacoma's first hospital, the organisation has operated for over 140 years and is the largest community-based, locally governed health system in Washington State.
The system employs over 20,000 team members, including employees, providers and volunteers. Its governance structure emphasises local control and decision-making rooted in the communities it serves, reflecting a commitment to understanding and addressing regional health needs.
Beyond clinical care delivery, MultiCare operates through the MultiCare Foundations, which invests in community health and wellness by awarding grants to nonprofit organisations and providing vital health services to individuals and families across its service area. The organisation's stated mission is to be the Pacific Northwest's highest value system of health, supported by core values of respect, integrity, stewardship, excellence, collaboration, kindness and joy.
