The Behavioral Health Coordinator will work within an integrated team that places the member in the center of all activities. The team identifies opportunities to improve care and services, assists in developing care plans, and may recommend alternate solutions to member issues. The team consists of the Director of Health Services, Behavioral Health Director, EPSDT Coordinator, Health Educator, RNs (Utilization Management and Care Coordination), Health Services Coordinator, and Support Staff.

 

The Behavioral Health Coordinator provides an essential link between members, their Prepaid Health Insurance Plan (PIHP), and their behavioral health care providers by providing collaboration of medical and behavioral heath care. This position will be filled by a licensed behavioral health clinician skilled in coordinating services and ensuring members have appropriate behavioral health care to support their pharmacological and physical medicine care needs.

 

The Behavioral Health Coordinator will develop relationships with PIHPs and community based behavioral health service providers to develop policies, procedures, and communications that will foster coordination and collaboration of care for our members to improve health outcomes.

 

The schedule for this position is Monday – Friday during standard business hours.

 

This position includes approximately 10% travel to meet with providers and attend association meetings and/or conferences.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Participate or consult as part of an integrated care team serving the member
  • Develop reporting to identify inappropriate utilization or incorrect billing and develops processes to ensure individuals are enrolled within the correct level of care based on their needs
  • Coordinate member behavioral health care needs with the member’s PIHP and community based behavioral health service providers, including CMHCs and CCBHCs
  • Develop processes to coordinate behavioral health care between the member’s primary care provider (PCP) and behavioral health service provider
  • Participate in the identification of best practices for behavioral health in a primary care setting
  • Coordinate behavioral health care with medically necessary services
  • Conduct training with clinical team and/or providers on behavioral health issues and state BH policy
  • Act as a liaison between Integrated Care Organization (ICO), state entities, and provider community, particularly with CCBHCs and CMHCs
  • Develop processes for early assessment and intervention for members who have behavioral health needs
  • Assist the mental health case manager in monitoring and evaluating ongoing services for appropriateness, cost effectiveness, compliance, and outcomes
  • Define care coordination roles and collaboration following inpatient treatment
  • Assure communication and coordination of the treatment plan between the PCP and behavioral health provider
  • Assist the PCP in making appropriate referrals for behavioral health services based on level of need
  • Participate in joint operation committee meetings with the PIHPs and CMHCs
  • Refer members to their PIHPs and behavioral health providers based upon health assessments or as identified by UnitedHealthcare Community & State inpatient and outpatient care coordination staff
  • Address concerns regarding access to care appointments and any barriers to care encountered by our members
  • Define the roles of engagement for common physical/psychological illnesses

Required Qualifications: 

  • One of the following active, unrestricted clinical licenses in Michigan:
    • Master’s level Psychologist
    • Master’s level Social Worker
    • Master’s level Marriage and Family Therapist
    • Master’s level Psychologist
    • Registered Nurse with 2+ years of behavioral health experience
    • Physician Assistant with 2+ years of behavioral health experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a related behavioral health environment
  • Proficient computer skills and good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Access to reliable transportation to attend provider meetings
  • Ability to travel to association meetings and/or conferences
  • Dedicated, distraction-free workspace at home
  • Access to high-speed internet at home (Broadband Cable, DSL, Fiber)
  • Reside in Michigan

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Community mental health experience
  • Experience with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Experience with the SMI population
  • Experience working with low-income populations
  • Experience working with Medicare and Medicaid recipients
  • Experience using evidence based practices
  • Experience using assessment tools (e.g., PHQ-9)
  • Medical/Behavioral setting experience (i.e., hospital, managed care organization, or joint medical/behavioral outpatient practice)
  • Experience working in an environment that required coordination of benefits and utilization of multiple groups and resources for members
  • Clinical training experience
  • Understanding of ASAM, LOCUS, and CAL-LOCUS criteria
  • Understanding of the Michigan mental health system
  • Understanding of the progression between levels of care
  • Proven excellent customer service skills
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal supervision
  • Proven team player and team building skills
  • Proven solid interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to maintain direct and open communication with all levels of the organization
