UW Health is the integrated academic health system affiliated with the University of Wisconsin–Madison, combining patient care, research and medical education in one organisation. Formed in 1996 on a clinical legacy of more than a century, it serves Wisconsin, northern Illinois and the wider Upper Midwest. Its academic regional referral centre holds 614 beds and has been named the No. 1 hospital in Wisconsin for 14 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report.
Clinical activity spans a wide range of acuity, from routine check-ups to highly complex treatments, across the 614-bed hospital and 127 outpatient clinics. In total the system serves more than 867,000 patients a year, offering nurses exposure to specialised and tertiary-level cases as well as ambulatory and community settings.
Through its partnership with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, UW Health trains the next generation of healthcare providers and runs research programmes that develop new treatments and technologies. The system's stated mission is to advance medicine and improve lives, supported by an emphasis on clinical excellence and innovation.
